Streets of Dungaree

Hi folks, doing more for Tin Canyon, trying to create more artwork for the show on August 12th, please come!

I'm having some trouble with textures, and colors I think... something seems off. Suggestions?

Oh yeah, one more thing.

I LOVE YOU <3.

  1. Andrew this is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!! The textures are so well placed, I bow to your skillz. Also - nice use of minimal line, you're really rocking the balance.

I LOVE how busy this image is, it's wonderful.

My only comment is there is maybe a lack of focal point? I'm not sure if that is good or bad because it's kind of an 'all over' image. If you're looking for more of a focal point maybe you could just de saturate or texture-up some of the areas that aren't as important?

One little thing - my eyes can't figure out how there is a boat/water somehow 'underground' because there's no hint of the other side of the bridge where the water would be.

This is beautiful - I can't wait to see the show!! I assume you'll be selling prints?

  3. Thanks Alexis! Haha yeah, the boat thing is sorta weird but I like how there is this sorta split between being a boat town and a desert town. Dungaree is a place of mystery and garbage so I'll leave it.

Good call on the lack of focal point, I'm sorta working on figuring out the colors a little more.

Process work to come, when I've slept, maybe I'll do more on the next one :)

    Thanks for your crit!!

  4. I agree with Alexis about the lack of a focal point. I think it's the guy playing guitar on the stairs with the lady beside him but he doesn't pop much.

I brought your picture into photoshop, desaturating it showed me that you have a very narrow value range. Everything except the cobblestone and skin tones seems within 20% of each other. You've chosen some nice colours for this piece though so I'd work on expanding the value range and establishing a focal point with an area of contrast.

Great to see your work again!
